Who We Are

IN 2018

BLACK KIDS IN ACTION (BKIA)

started with a simple goal, to create a safe space where Black children could feel proud of who they are and where they come from.

We noticed something troubling. Many Black youth were losing touch with their history and culture. Some felt like they didn’t belong, others struggled to find their voice, and we knew something had to change.

So we stepped in.

Today, BKIA is a growing community for Black youths in Windsor, Essex, and nearby areas. We teach them about their history, help them build strong friendships, and guide them as they prepare for life after high school.

We also speak up against discrimination, racism, and systemic oppression and give young people the guidance they need to face challenges with confidence.

But we don’t stop there.

We know that mental well-being is just as important. That’s why we create safe spaces where Black kids can talk, feel heard, and know they’re not alone, all through the lens of their unique experiences and culture.

OUR VISION

We imagine a world where every Black child feels proud of their identity and confident in their future. A world where no one is held back because of their race, background, or circumstances.

We want Black children to grow up knowing their roots, celebrating their culture, and feeling like they belong at school, at home, and everywhere they go.

OUR MISSION

Our mission is simple - to stand in the gap for Black children.

We break down barriers that limit their success. We create spaces where they feel safe, seen, and valued. We offer support that helps them build a better future.

At BKIA, we believe that every Black child has a story worth telling, and we’re here to make sure they get to tell it with pride.
